In October 2024, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests in Islamabad have escalated significantly, with confrontations between PTI supporters and law enforcement intensifying. The protests are part of PTI's continued opposition to the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which PTI accuses of coming to power through vote manipulation and failing to uphold democratic principles.

The unrest has seen large groups of PTI supporters, many traveling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, converge on Islamabad, particularly aiming to reach the politically symbolic D-Chowk. The government has deployed heavy security measures to prevent disruptions, especially with the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on October 15-16. Roads leading to key locations in the capital have been blocked by containers, and police have clashed with protesters using tear gas and other means to control the crowds. PTI, however, remains defiant, with key leaders stating their intent to continue protesting despite the government's resistance.

The violence during the protests has led to significant casualties, including the death of a police officer and injuries to over 70 security personnel. Authorities have arrested nearly 800 individuals, some of whom were found to be Afghan nationals and even off-duty law enforcement officers allegedly supporting the protests. The government has condemned the use of public resources, such as ambulances and fire trucks, by protestors to mobilize people and supplies, and they have vowed to take strict legal action against those responsible.

These protests represent PTI's broader campaign against what they view as an illegitimate government, with the party calling for early elections and accusing the current administration of curbing democratic freedom.
